  • Magic Teapot Presents: Arc Iris + Guests 31/08/14

Bella Union are thrilled to announce the signing of ARC IRIS, the new project from Jocie Adams, formerly of The Low Anthem. Arc Iris is inspired by 70s pop, folk and country traditions, cabaret, jazz and classical. The eclectic new project from the former Low Anthem member draws on diverse influences ranging from Led Zeppelin to Grizzly Bear, from Joni Mitchell to Dirty Projectors, and from Miles Davis to Chopin. A singer, multi-instrumentalist, classical composer and former NASA researcher, Adams formed the collective with primary musicians Zach Tenorio-Miller (piano), Ray Belli (drums), Max Johnson (bass), Robin Ryczek (cello) and Mike Irwin (trumpet) among others to present her ambitious new songs. The rhythm section has been playing together since high school and cut their teeth at the School of Rock where they shared a stage with musicians such as Slash, Perry Farrell, Andrew WK, Jon Anderson of Yes and the Butthole Surfers. Arc Iris has recently played shows with Calexico, CocoRosie, Marco Benevento, Menomena, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Patrick Watson and Justin Townes Earle. Before departing The Low Anthem to form Arc Iris, Adams released two universally acclaimed albums with that band, their music variously described “a sublime mix of hymnal purity and barn-storming rock” (Uncut), “magical songs laden with imagery and poignancy” (The Guardian) and “taking sadness and wistful melancholy and turning it into something beautiful” (NME)

  • Syd Arthur + Prophets of Saturn + Guests 23/09/14 (Rescheduled Date)

Hailed by MOJO as "Canterbury's dazzling new sons," Syd Arthur offer a strikingly fresh take on 21st century psychedelia, their exceptional approach born of prodigious musicianship, elemental songcraft, and an unabashed spirit of adventure. Released in the UK in 2012, On An On swings as much as it swirls, with songs like first single "Ode To The Summer," whose video was premiered in America by Stereogum, fusing kosmische jazz and expansive grooves with arcadian instrumentation, intricate time signatures, and lyrical, free-spirited melodies to conjure a rather potent and particular musical magic. On An On justly earned Syd Arthur reams of UK attention, with critical acclaim and increasingly bigger gigs, including recent tours alongside White Denim and confirmed fan Paul Weller.

  • Magic teapot Presents: Hey Rocco + Guests 06/10/14

The stars were aligned when childhood friends Black Future (vocals, guitar, hairspray), Christopher Cool (bass, driving), and Taco Cooper (drums, manual labor) first plugged in their parent’s garage five years ago. It didn’t take long before they quit school in pursuit of becoming the biggest and loudest rock band of their generation. This South Carolina-bred trio may be known for their dark, nostalgic pop tunes, but their compelling image and onstage persona is in-your-face rock and roll. Their music is reminiscent of bands such as The Cure, Nada Surf, and early Pumpkins spiked with an experimental blend of Broken Social Scene meets On A Friday. After spending their teenage years playing shows all over the country, the band plans to release their debut full-length album sometime in 2014. If you are fortunate enough to catch them live, buy them shots of whiskey.

  • Ruarri Joseph + Lily & Meg 12/11/14

Doors: 10pm Tickets: £10 Advance -- Ruarri Joseph returns this Autumn with a new album ‘Brother’ (Pip Productions). The record, Ruarri’s fourth studio album to date, is a record inspired and propelled by ideas of friendship, relationships and family. Originally born in Edinburgh, the nomadic Joseph found his song- writing roots in the southwestern Pacific. A move to New Zealand, and the young Ruarri found himself coming of age in Dannevirke (population 6,000), an isolated, rural farming community. At 17 Joseph packed his suitcase and moved back to the UK and settled in London, where he released his debut album ‘Tales Of Grime and Grit’ through Atlantic Records. Shortly after he quit Atlantic in favour of independence and so in 2008, he formed his own label ‘Pip Productions’ through which all his subsequent LPs have been released. Inspired by Bob Dylan, the singer song-writer’s work has also earned him favourable comparisons to the chart-topping pop savvy sounds of Damian Rice and David Gray, artists which through no coincidence Joseph now shares management with. “One of our best songwriters and lyricists” – The Times “As wise as a 70 year old Johnny Cash” – NME “Genius…a breath of the freshest air” - Observer “Like a modern Cat Stevens” – Paolo Nutini “Stunning” – Claudia Winkleman, BBC Radio2
