  • The Cookie Presents: Blue Rose Code + Boat to Row + The Hardy Band 08/04/15

The Cookie is happy to announce the return of the mercurial talent Blue Rose Code. Blue Rose Code is not folk music. Or so he’s been told. Ross Wilson, the Edinburgh-born songwriter who performs under that name, doesn’t write folk songs. But having discovered the traditional music of the British Isles whilst in exile down south, he fell in love with what he heard. Those sounds informed what happened next. Blue Rose Code's latest album, The Ballads Of Peckham Rye, features a remarkable roll call of musicians from the folk side of the fence, including Karine Polwart, Lau’s Aidan O’Rourke and the lead single from Ballads features Mercury Music Prize Nominee, Kathryn Williams. Ross also toured as the duo, Hardy & Wilson, with the BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year, Bella Hardy. Doors 8pm £10 ADV

  • Red Charlie Ltd. Promotions Presents: Robert Vincent + Martha Bean 12/04/15 *MATINEE SHOW*

Robert Vincent (Liverpool, UK) released his first album (Life in Easy Steps) in 2012, which attracted huge critical acclaim, from Q magazine, Rolling Stone and Daily Express amongst some of the highest praise. The editor of Q Magazine went on to suggest that Robert was comparable to Springsteen or Van Morrison. "This is a confident, evocative and resiliently good first album" Stephen Unwin - Daily Express Robert writes his own songs, that blend country, rock and folk influences together with his own early experiences of listening to his brothers Pink Floyd albums; his father's Johnny Cash and of course his home city gave him the Beatles to listen to. Thoughtfully blending all these influences, and lending his own charismatic interpretations the result is an extraordinarily involving listening experience. It's easy to empathise with both the lyrics and the emotion evoking melodies, and Robert has promised that his second album (to be released in 2015) will only build on his early success and deliver even more thought provoking listening.
