Win A Trip Around The National Space Centre With Paul Foot!

LEGO-Galaxy-squad-event-4 PaulFoot_Kenny_Larch

!!! Two very lucky Connoisseurs will win the chance to go around the National Space Centrewith Paul Foot himself next week on Friday 9th October !!!

GREETINGS! To celebrate the LAUNCH of my UK Retrospective Tour in Leicester next week I am LAUNCHING a competition in conjunction with Leicester’s totally amazing National Space Centre baybayyyy! (How many times, I wonder, can I use the word “launch” regarding this competition? Major Commander Rebeca in the National Space Centre’s marketing office says the record is 36)

I have never been to the National Space Centre but have always wanted to go. I have no idea why it is in Leicester – but I’m not here to provide all the answers, I just wanna SPACE OUT BAYBAYYYY! As ye may know, some of my jokes are about space – including the NASA employee who is too casual about air locks – and I also describe my own fashion sense as ‘Space Casual’ – like an off-duty astronaut’s housewife, preparing the canapés at a space station soiree. Just from browsing the Space Centre’s websyte it has easily become my favourite Leicester attraction – it’s light years ahead of Richard III’s bones! (No offence Ricky love)

ANYWAY! So I arrive in Leicester on Thirsty 8th and shall be performing at The Cookie in the centre of town for three nights, performing three different shows from my own past: BY THE YARD, STILL LIFE, and KENNY LARCH IS DEAD. Find out more information and book tickets here.

I am asking connoisseurs to draw or design a space themed picture of me and submit it anytime between now and midnight on Wrensday 6th Octopus. It could be a Paul Foot space figurine with accessories, it could be me chillaxing with an alien of your design or it could perhaps show me at home in my space capsule watching space snooker – ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! Like this picture below, but better basically…

Paul Foot on Moon

Quite a bit better, in fact, as I just did this myself in the back of a taxi using Microsoft Paint! Although by all means feel free to submit a rubbish entry just FOR A LAUGH, if you have nothing better to do.

A bonus point will be awarded for including the National Space Centre logo.

Ye must then submit your entry onto my Paul Foot Facebonk page. Or ye can send it to me via the Twitters @PaulFoot, or ye can email it to me via the contact page on my websyte (if ye do things this way then make sure to email me, not my agent or he might start invoicing you at random)

The two winners must be able to come to the National Space Centre on Flyday 9th Octopus. Winners must be 16+ and human. If ye do not meet these requirements ye may still create and submit a picture, ye just will not win – obviously. LOL.

  • The Cookie Presents: REEVES GABRELS & HIS IMAGINARY FR13NDS feat. LISA RONSON 13/10/15

Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Fr13nds Power trio celebrates album release with small club gigs across the UK Following a three week tour of the USA in July/August 2015, Reeves Gabrels, long-time artistic partner of David Bowie and The Cure’s current lead guitarist, is taking his power trio, Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends, back to the UK. The band toured England in October 2014 and look forward to a fuller UK run in October 2015. If you’re a fan of great songs, stellar musicianship and fearless improvisation, you should catch Reeves & friends live while you can. Tour set highlights from the new album include the biting “Drown You Out” and the spooky “House of Usher,” which draws its title from an Edgar Allan Poe story published in 1840. Unusual interpretations of Bo Diddley’s early rocker “Who Do You Love” and Jimmy Reed’s blues “Bright Lights, Big City” also feature. Fans of earlier Reeves Gabrels albums will be pleased too, as the trio plays songs from Sacred Squall of Now (1995), Ulysses (1999) and Rockonica (2005) plus co-writes with some of Reeves’ more famous friends, such as Tin Machine’s “Bus Stop,” written by David Bowie & Reeves Gabrels, and “Yesterday’s Gone,” written by Reeves Gabrels & Robert Smith of The Cure. Lisa Ronson Lisa Ronson is a singer and writer of songs with wry, existential lyrics and a sound that blends synth-pop and alternative rock. She relocated to London in 2012 from New York where she was a member of the art pop band The Secret History and released two albums with them. Lisa’s acclaimed solo single “Shopping & F” (2014) featured Reeves Gabrels on guitar. Most recently, in June 2015 she toured in the UK with Tony Visconti & Woody Woodmansey’s Holy Holy performing David Bowie’s seminal The Man Who Sold The World album live.

  • The Cookie & Magic Teapot Presents: GIRLS NAMES + Support (THE MUSICIAN) 17/10/15

The Cookie & Magic Teapot presents... Girls Names Girls Names are a band from Northern Island who have only been together for about five years and they are already making quite a name for themselves with a sort of dated 80s sounding indie music. The guitar is very fragmented when they launch into their set opening with a song called “Portrait” which sounds as though it is going through a number of various effects pedals. There is also a synthesizer pad supplying a drone effect above the music. The lead singer and guitarist, Cathal Cully, is a very sloppy guitarist to say the least, almost sounding as thought he wants this band to sound a little bit like Joy Division. “The New Life” is a song that makes me realize that Girls Names’ sound is sort of formulaic with it’s vast soundscapes and lazy guitar playing, alongside those “I can’t be bothered to sing but I’m singing” style of vocals. “Hypnotic Regression” bring this set to a close seeing this hipster audience engaged but looking almost to cool to react. + Support TBA £8ADV Doors 8pm

Sounds like a barrel of laughs, right? With his signature style of upbeat, occasionally rude but ultimately heart-warming comedy, this show will leave you feeling good about life. ★★★★ Time Out ★★★★ Metro ★★★★ Telegraph ★★★★ The Times ★★★★ Chortle ★★★★ Broadway Baby ★★★★ Edinburgh Reporter ‘Such elegance, laconic grace and terse wit.’ Time Out ‘60 Minutes of uninterrupted comic ecstasy.’ Metro ‘Ludicrously likeable.’ Times ‘Slick showmanship, very funny songs, and copious sharp-brained ad-libs.’ Telegraph ‘An impressive spectacle.’ Guardian ‘It’s warm, heartfelt, and – most of all – reassuring to those of us who feel like we never really grew up.’ Broadway Baby ‘Clark completely seduced everyone in the room. The women want to take him home and the men can imagine going out with him for a pint. Dan Clark. What an act!’ Fringe Review ‘Impossible to dislike this upbeat show.’ Chortle
  • The Cookie & Andy Wright Presents: DMA'S + Guests 23/10/15

DMA’S (dee-em-ayes) is Johnny Took, Matt Mason and Tommy O’Dell – three friends who came together making nostalgic garage pop in a bedroom in Newtown. Having met whilst playing in other bands, DMA’S are three writers, three mates, three frontmen – all with a common sense of purpose and musicality. Writing a few songs together, the band demoed them in Johnny’s bedroom-studio, gaining instant attention - all before putting out an official track or playing a single show. After signing with tastemaker label I OH YOU, DMA’S released their debut single ‘Delete’ to rave reviews, with Channel V calling the band “the next big thing”, and Triple J adding the track to high rotation. With NME picking them as a buzz band to watch, Blur’s Dave Rowntree naming ‘Delete’ his Record of the Week on XFM, and the band selling out their first national tour - DMA’S have gone from strength to strength. • The Cookie Presents: MILES HUNT (The Wonder Stuff Diaries 86'-89' - A Special Book Reading) 11/12/15

We're pleased to announce the legend Miles Hunt from The Wonder Stuff will be joining us on 11th December. In his first book, “The Wonder Stuff Diaries ‘86-‘89”, Miles Hunt delves into his personal journals to give a vivid account of how a young British kid worked his way up to achieving the success most can only dream of, as an international touring rock star. The Wonder Stuff recorded four Top 20 albums and seventeen Top 20 singles, selling over three million albums worldwide. “The Wonder Stuff Diaries ‘86-‘89” recounts the joys and frustrations of the music business, with an unabated narrative of the impact on Hunt’s personal life. The book is peppered with both personal and professional photography, press cuttings and the unmistakable artwork that represented the band during these early days. In the mid-1990s, Hunt hosted MTV Europe’s ‘120 Minutes’ alternative music show and became one of the first DJs on the fledgling XFM. His decade-spanning career even includes a Number 1 with ‘Dizzy’ featuring Vic Reeves. The Wonder Stuff are still actively touring, regularly selling out the Shepherds Bush O2 Empire and Birmingham O2 Academy as well as many other venues up and down the UK. Some highlights of their career include: being the first indie band to headline a stadium show (Bescot, June 1991), four consecutive sold out Brixton Academy and Town & Country shows (1991) and the biggest bar spend at both The Brixton Academy (1991) and The Forum (2001). Between playing The Wonder Stuff as well as Miles & Erica gigs, Hunt brings his book reading shows on the road. The evening, split into two halves contains readings from the book with a handful of acoustic songs played from around the time. The second half of the set Hunt opens up the floor and runs a Q&A with the audience which is both 100% honest and hilarious. This is a show not to be missed and will be enjoyed by fans and people who have never heard of ‘The Wonder Stuff’ alike! Doors 8PM £14 ADV
