  • Magic Teapot & The Cookie Present: Flowers + Guests 11/03/15

Magic Teapot + The Cookie presents: Flowers, recent support to The Wedding Present, a brilliant new three piece from London. Despite only having formed in April 2014 they have already toured Europe with The Pains Of Being Pure Of Heart and recorded with Stuart Moxham of Young Marble Giants. Fittingly, Flowers draw a line between the joyous fuzzpop of the Pains and the minimalist brilliance of Young Marble Giants – with singer Rachel playing bass guitar with just a single string. The trio comprises of Sam (guitar), Jordan (drums) and Rachel (bass, vocals). Together they create a wall of sound larger than the sum of their parts, catchy pop songs hidden in noise. And Rachel possesses one of those beautiful pop voices to die for, with echos of Elizabeth Fraser and Hope Sandoval. The reception at the few gigs they have played to date has been nothing less than rapturous. Following singles on Cloudberry and Odd Box Records, a full-length album is scheduled for release soon on Fortuna POP! Doors 8pm £5 ADV

  • The Cookie Presents: Blue Rose Code + Guests 08/04/15

The Cookie is happy to announce the return of the mercurial talent Blue Rose Code. Blue Rose Code is not folk music. Or so he’s been told. Ross Wilson, the Edinburgh-born songwriter who performs under that name, doesn’t write folk songs. But having discovered the traditional music of the British Isles whilst in exile down south, he fell in love with what he heard. Those sounds informed what happened next. Blue Rose Code's latest album, The Ballads Of Peckham Rye, features a remarkable roll call of musicians from the folk side of the fence, including Karine Polwart, Lau’s Aidan O’Rourke and the lead single from Ballads features Mercury Music Prize Nominee, Kathryn Williams. Ross also toured as the duo, Hardy & Wilson, with the BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year, Bella Hardy. Doors 8pm £10 ADV
