On Sunday 26th July we head back to The Cookie, with an Edinburgh preview from the one and only Bobby Mair, new shows from Weirdos favourites Adam Larter and Beth Vyse, as well as Leicester favourites Ian Hall and Bruce Edhouse closing proceedings with their ‘Two Syds’ show! 4.30pm: BOBBY MAIR - 'FILTHY IMMIGRANT' Bobby Mair delivers a dark, honest and hilarious hour of pure stand-up. As seen on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Russell Howard’s Good News, Sweat the Small Stuff and Virtually Famous. 'Bobby Mair is clearly a brilliant stand-up. He's either going to be a huge international comedy star or the funniest homeless man ever' (Jimmy Carr). 'Hilarious' (Alan Davies). 'A bona fide tour de force' (Guardian). Tickets: 6pm: ADAM LARTER - THE CARDBOARD GARDENER A Summer Fridge exclusive, Adam Larter brings a brand new show to The Cookie, on Day 5 of the Summer Fridge programme: "For every cherry tomato shall fall. The courgette we shall forget. Dandruff soil which is hard to post. Take all of this and make it ready fork the fork." Vyse is back and this time it’s personal! A bodacious and ballsy look at her battle with breast cancer. Hear the tale of her Stoke-on-Trent family - The Waltons on Alcohol, her time with Nelson Mandela, acting and thieving at the Royal Shakespeare Company, settling down with Michael Jackson and finding cancer. • The Cookie Presents: DAYFLOWER + Sepia Sun + Gitta de Ritter 10/08/15

Dayflower Dayflower pour their honey-drenched pop melodies over a collage of fuzzed-up synths, lo-fi beats, and jangly guitars. All carefully pieced together on an obsolete version of Cubase, in the kind of bedroom where Enid Blyton is still visible on the shelves and a tumble dryer is used for a chair. Or imagine Flaming Lips' producer Dave Fridmann getting his hands on The La's. Lush, ambitious pop, dreamed in from an other time / place. Sepia Sun Description Formed in early 2014 post-rocktronica band from Leicester UK. Consisting of Guitars, Bass, Synth and Laptop Beats. Taking influences from the vast genres of rock and electronic music and blending it into their own sound. Already moving quickly, Sepia Sun have supported renowned bands such as Thought Forms, Spectres, and The Altered Hours. Securing gigs off the back of a live demo recording of their second rehearsal. They are currently self-recording and producing their debut EP set to be released later in 2015. Gitta de Ridder Dutch-English singer and songwriter Gitta de Ridder draws the listener into a world full of atmosphere and feeling. Feelings of joy, sadness and wonder. Stories, thoughts, dreams, hopes, and all that lies between wrapped up in a blanket of indie folk acoustic guitar sounds and beautiful melodies. She grew up in The Netherlands leaving the family home to go study music at age 18. A journey that took her from the Netherlands to Germany, to Italy, Greece, Ireland and the UK, settling in London in 2008 where she has lived ever since. Her first single 'Mr Yesterday' released in September 2014 gathered attention from BBC introducing, Amazing Radio and several Dutch Radio stations and with her self-produced debut EP 'Come Find Me' released in January 2015 and received with shining reviews she is starting to be a name to remember. • The Cookie Presents: GNOD + Colossoth 20/08/15

Thursday 20th August GNOD £10 Advance / 8pm / 14+ --- Gnod is a British krautrock band from Salford, Greater Manchester, England.[1][2][3] Formed in 2006, the band was described in a review of its 2011 release Ingnodwetrust as "a collective from Manchester with an ever-rotating list of members".[4] Its current lineup is Paddy Shine, Chris Haslam, Marlene Ribeiro and Neil Francis.[1] In addition to releasing its work on Rocket Recordings, the band's own Tesla Tapes label[2] serves, according to its Bandcamp page, as "an outlet for musical projects and meanderings by Gnodheads past, present & future and friends of Gnod all over the world".[1] As part of its residency at the Islington Mill Art Academy, the band curated "Tangent", an installation by sound artist Callum Higgins.[2] According to the academy's website, the event "transformed our club space into a fully immersive, light reactive environment. Using the PA system and light sensitive noise creating circuits people were directed into to the room in small groups equipped with only a torch to guide them around. Their very presence and behaviour in the room manipulated and shaped their unique experience.[5] The band also participates in a recurring shared club night at Islington Mill called Gesamtkunstwerk,[1] (German for "whole arts work".)[2] Reviewing a Gnod performance there, New Musical Express said, "this band are crazy good ... see them live now."[6] According to founding Gnod member Paddy Shine, Tesla Tapes takes its name from Nikola Tesla; band members cite such other non-musical influences as Kurt Vonnegut, David Simon, Graham Hancock and Rupert Sheldrake.[1] Asked what the band would like to tell the world, Chris Haslam responds "Rebel! Rebel! We are many, they are few!"[1]

  • The Cookie & Andy Wright Present: LTNT + The Midnight Dogs + That Temple + Colossloth 25/08/15

(Lieutenant) NO HOME: Kerrang "Fuzzy, filthy, infectious fun from Brit Mob" Big Cheese "They should be huge." LTNT (Lieutenant) - alt rock product of youth post good times. Kerrang! “Therapy! fans get on this!” Kerrang! "Laying on the fuzz, you'd have a hard time cleaning up their dirty riffs with a lifetime's supply of domestos, but when they're as exciting as those on Body Blood and Great Entertainment, why would you want to? Mmm, nasty." Big Cheese “The first thing that hits you when you listen to this EP, on opener and single 'Body Bloody' is just how massive the guitars sound. Like Faith No More meets Biffy Clyro. They should be huge” Metalhammer “A wayward musical path between grunge, alt. rock and blues!” BBC Reading + Leeds "The Best of the Festival Republic stage 2014" Music Week "You don't simply 'rock up' to a LTNT show and watch them play, it's a high-adrenaline experience and after you've lived through it, you and everyone around you are left wondering 'what the fuck just happened?! So don't miss them live!" Classic Rock "And now for some alt.rock in the form of grungey London's LTNT. ITBOYM gradually swells through pensive dynamics, melancholic refrains, a soaring climax and finally a head-spinning blast of beautifully filthy yet heartfelt buzz." Sunday Sport "London's LTNT play raucous hard rock in the vein of Foo Fighters and Biffy Clyro and, judging by their recent debut EP, it won't be long before the trio will be playing their blistering sets to arenas themselves." Noise Cannon “would rock the socks off Dave Grohl” “definitely the perfect soundtrack to release the tension people…” "Straight in with their signature sound, those who had just arrived had no chance to warm up and were hit with a face full of thunderous drums, heavy riff & raw vocals that made you forget you have work tomorrow. The large, but initially awkward crowd who had turned up for some desert style stoner rock didn’t appear to know what to do with themselves after the first song, remaining quiet and possibly slightly confused for a few minutes. But people kept coming in from the bar, intrigued by what they heard next door, and by the third track LTNT had a good rocking crowd up front and throughout complete with a decent level of applause and a few wolf-whistles to boot. I was promised an impressive live show from LTNT, and they didn’t fail to deliver. With a debut EP launched in April this year entitled DAO through Dust Devil Sounds, LTNT are one to keep an eye on." Metalmouth: "Psychedelic and heavy-as-balls, their take on alt-rock is glorious and an excellent fit for the evening. A particular delight is their drummer whose lightning snare rolls and mercurial dexterity is a wonder to behold, though audience attention is split between him and their tousled frontman. Objectively Gonga’s delightful weave of passages and textures ticked all my boxes but LTNT’s electricity is much more on-point with the crowd as the energy grows for Brant Bjork’s eventual ascension." "Their guitar riffs at times reminded of something Tony Iommi would play and were combined with vocals that reminded a bit of newcomer bands like Blackwolf and Leogun as well as classics like The Doors, with the singer even looking a bit like Jim Morrison. But don’t be fooled into thinking LTNT would be like any other newcomer band because they did manage to surprise with a song that sounded a bit more experimental, like something Frank Zappa might come up with." Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Fr13nds Power trio celebrates album release with small club gigs across the UK Following a three week tour of the USA in July/August 2015, Reeves Gabrels, long-time artistic partner of David Bowie and The Cure’s current lead guitarist, is taking his power trio, Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends, back to the UK. The band toured England in October 2014 and look forward to a fuller UK run in October 2015. If you’re a fan of great songs, stellar musicianship and fearless improvisation, you should catch Reeves & friends live while you can. Tour set highlights from the new album include the biting “Drown You Out” and the spooky “House of Usher,” which draws its title from an Edgar Allan Poe story published in 1840. Unusual interpretations of Bo Diddley’s early rocker “Who Do You Love” and Jimmy Reed’s blues “Bright Lights, Big City” also feature. Fans of earlier Reeves Gabrels albums will be pleased too, as the trio plays songs from Sacred Squall of Now (1995), Ulysses (1999) and Rockonica (2005) plus co-writes with some of Reeves’ more famous friends, such as Tin Machine’s “Bus Stop,” written by David Bowie & Reeves Gabrels, and “Yesterday’s Gone,” written by Reeves Gabrels & Robert Smith of The Cure. Lisa Ronson Lisa Ronson is a singer and writer of songs with wry, existential lyrics and a sound that blends synth-pop and alternative rock. She relocated to London in 2012 from New York where she was a member of the art pop band The Secret History and released two albums with them. Lisa’s acclaimed solo single “Shopping & F” (2014) featured Reeves Gabrels on guitar. Most recently, in June 2015 she toured in the UK with Tony Visconti & Woody Woodmansey’s Holy Holy performing David Bowie’s seminal The Man Who Sold The World album live.
